The monk returns; Baoyu tries to give him the
jade back, but Aroma stops him. His enigmatic manner distresses his family.
Zheng has fallen ill, and Lian is upset to leave Qiaojie behind. Yun and Qiang
are left in charge, and descend into wild drinking and gambling. The Ladies
finally consent to Xichun becoming a nun.
