Baochai and Aroma tend to Baoyu, discussing
what could have caused the beating. Later, he is woken by Daiyu’s sobbing. An
emotional Lady Wang gives Aroma some medicine for him, and is greatly moved by
her solicitude. Daiyu is inspired to write a poem after Baoyu sends her some
handkerchiefs. Pan causes a great scene at the Xues’, telling them about Jiang
Yuhan’s present and upsetting Baochai.
