Word of the burglary reaches Zheng at the
temple; he sends Lian back to investigate. One of the burglars returns and
kidnaps Adamantina; Xichun is distressed and puzzled and cuts her hair off. Aunt
Zhao suffers a delirious fit at the temple; Zheng returns home early and deals
with affairs.
