Baoyu becomes deranged after an argument with
Nightingale about Daiyu. He improves
and they smooth things over, although Daiyu is upset. Xiuyan is chosen as a
wife for Xue Ke. Baochai is
distressed to find out about Xiuyan’s straitened circumstances, paying her pawn
ticket; Daiyu is upset by talk of romantic fate.
